The fact that a series creator appears in his own work is nothing new. Maybe Taylor Sheridan got the idea from Kurt Sutter, who played an important role in his series Sons of Anarchy. After all, Taylor Sheridan was also part of the cast in the biker drama before he realized his own idea with Yellowstone. Sheridan starred in his own growing series universe even several roles.
Taylor Sheridan plays this role in the western hit Yellowstone
Sheridan made his first appearance in the 5th episode of the 1st season. Since then, he has appeared at least once in almost every season. His role was that Horse dealer Travis Wheatley. During his appearances he usually worked together with the main character John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner. Often it was Dutton himself who asked Wheatley for help.
After the first season, Sheridan returned as Travis Wheatley for 3 episodes in the 2nd season and even in 5 episodes of the 4th season. This season he plays an important role as the disgraced Jimmy Hurdstram. He is sent to Ranch 6666 in Texas and is accompanied by Wheatley, who gives him… gives valuable advice and one of the best monologues in the series holds.
Taylor Sheridan also appeared in the spin-off
After Yellowstone, a prequel entitled 1883 started in 2021. This follows John Dutton’s ancestor James Dutton (Tim McGraw) on his way through the Great Plains to find a new home. Series creator Sheridan also insists on playing a role in the prequel. He embodied him in two episodes Rancher Charles Goodnight, who actually existed.
Another spin-off, 1923, has been broadcast in the Yellowstone universe since 2022. Sheridan hasn’t appeared in it yet, but there may be a role for him here too.
In addition, two further spin-off series are being planned. On the one hand, there would be a sequel from 1923 under the title 1944. There will also be a series based on the titular ranch under the name 6666.
