It is an agreement which is the result of intense negotiations. The State and EDF have agreed on a rate of 70 euros per megawatt hour, in order to limit the impact of successive increases on the energy market, announced this Tuesday, November 14, the Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno The mayor.
And for good reason, electricity in France is increasingly weighing on household budgets. Between February 2022, the month of the Russian invasion in Ukraine and summer 2023, the price of the kilowatt hour consumed including tax (for a 9 kVA contract) increased from 0.174 euros to 0.226 euros, an increase of almost 77% in only two years.
The State promises “stability” in consumers’ energy bills after this agreement, an innovation in electricity price regulation aimed at preserving the financial sustainability of the company.
“EDF is a nationalized company”, but “EDF must be profitable, we are not in the Soviet Union”, underlined Bruno Le Maire, refusing to see the group sell its electricity at “cut-off prices”.
