Yasuke Loses His Abilities in AC Shadows

Yasuke, one of the notable heroes of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, will not be able to use Eagle Vision and Leap of Faith, which are the iconic abilities of the series.

Ubisoft’s new game Assassin’s Creed Shadowsis preparing to surprise players with two different hero mechanics. One of the main characters of the game yasukestripped of the series’ classic assassin abilities. Yasuke will not be an assassin, but more of a samurai with his heavy armor. This is in clear contrast to the fast and stealth-oriented gameplay of Naoe, the game’s other main character. Simon Lemay-Comtois, the director of the game, stated that Yasuke will play an important role in the storytelling with this difference.

Why Are Yasuke’s Abilities Limited?

According to the producers’ statements, Yasuke’s not being an assassin is a completely story-oriented choice. Ubisoft feels that making Yasuke an assassin would weaken his “outsider” position in the story. Therefore, Yasuke will not have access to abilities like Eagle Vision. Even the Leap of Faith, which has become the symbol of the series, is presented in a very different way for Yasuke. Players will see Yasuke fall clumsily to the ground and suffer in pain when he tries to perform the Leap of Faith move. This small detail is designed as a humorous touch compatible with the character’s armor and physical structure.

Ubisoft created a two-hero structure for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Naoe was designed as a fast and stealth-oriented character with classic assassin abilities. On the other hand, Yasuke offers a slower, sluggish, and combat-oriented gameplay style. This difference will give players the opportunity to have two different experiences. “Having Yasuke not be an assassin allows players to approach both characters in a different way,” Lemay-Comtois explained.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows aims to offer diversity to players thanks to the different mechanics of Yasuke and Naoe. Yasuke’s lack of talent makes his search for identity and story as an outcast samurai all the more compelling. This gives the game a different dynamic from other Assassin’s Creed games.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has aroused great curiosity among fans of the series with this innovative approach. Yasuke’s lack of abilities seems likely to deepen his character development and the game’s storytelling. Players will have the chance to discover this different experience in 2025.
