Yaroslav lost his entire family in a bombing

Yaroslav Bazylevych, a father of three, lost his children and his wife when the family’s house was hit by a Russian bomb attack in Lviv, Ukraine, a month ago.
TV4 News has met Yaroslav who is now appealing for help.
– To the whole world: wake up and start acting, he says.

The past month has been described as perhaps the deadliest and most violent period of the entire Ukraine war. Thousands of soldiers have been killed but civilians have also lost their lives.

The city of Lviv used to be described as one of the safest places in Ukraine. But a month ago, father-of-three Yaroslav had his life shattered when a Russian cruise robot hit the family’s house in the city.

“We did everything we should when the air raid alert went off”

TV4 News has met Yaroslav who lost his three daughters who were 7, 18 and 21 years old. His wife also died in the Russian bombing.

– We were constantly thinking about their safety. We did everything we should when the air raid alert went off. We woke up the children, says Yaroslav Bazylevych, who is a business manager by day.

– I feel completely destroyed, you must excuse me. But it is clear that it hurts, even to think back, he continues.

Yaroslav asks the world for support: “Act”

The family’s friends and relatives are a vital support for him right now. But despite the grief Yaroslav is going through, he wants to highlight the country’s precarious situation and appeals for support from the outside world.

– The Ukrainian people are currently conducting an existential war for their survival. To the whole world, to all international organizations, I want to address: wake up and start acting.

It is easy for him to express his concern for the future of Ukraine and all of Europe when Vladimir Putin is allowed to run amok. But when his own future comes up, he responds slowly.

– The future, no, I can’t even think about it. I don’t know, it’s so close.
