Former coach of the French Davis Cup team, Yannick Noah returns to service in 2025.
Yannick Noah is not retired and far from it! During the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, you may have seen the Frenchman in the wheelchair tennis athletes’ box. The former winner of Roland-Garros was the captain of the French wheelchair tennis team for a few months.
Now he has a new position as national para tennis coordinator. He must now ensure the management of all practices within the National Technical Directorate and will have the particular mission of continuing the structuring of the para tennis department by piloting the training and “high level” strategy and supporting the development of all practice of para tennis in the territory? as explained by the Federation.
But his year 2025 will be busy since Yannick Noah will also become the coach of one of the monsters on the world circuit.
The winner of Roland Garros in 1983 will indeed train Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz for several weeks, during the Laver Cup at the end of the year. The Spaniard already announced his participation a few days ago in the prestigious tournament, which pits the cream of European tennis against the rest of the world.
The Frenchman succeeds the Swede Bjorn Borg who had been at the head of Team Europe for several years. “I can’t imagine a better person than Yannick to take over the role. He’s a great champion, a leader and a wonderful person,” the clay court legend said of the Frenchman. An important challenge for the singer who says he is “impatient” to work with the former world number 1.
“Carlos is a one-of-a-kind talent. I am delighted to have him with us at Team Europe. He inspires everyone around him and his presence in the team makes us stronger. His speed, his energy and his ability to rise in big moments are unmatched,” he told the Laver Cup website.
Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev will also be members of this European Laver Cup team. “I may have softened, but my competitive side is still alive. I want the European team to win,” said Yannick Noah. As a reminder, Team Europe has won 5 times compared to 2 for Team World, including a success in 2024.
