Yamaha launches new electric scooter with interchangeable batteries Gogoro

After the e-Vino which played on the retro register with its Vespa tunes, Yamaha has just formalized a new electric scooter which opts for a radically opposite futuristic style. It was developed in partnership with Gogoro, the specialist in interchangeable batteries whose model based on charging stations scattered around towns has met with great success in Asia.

Little technical information has leaked out about the Yamaha EMF which we simply know is equipped with a 7.6 kW electric motor in a central position driving the rear wheel via a chain. We do not know the maximum speed but Yamaha announces that it accelerates from 0 to 50 km/h in 3.5 seconds.

The Yamaha EMF opts for a design with sporty accents that borrows from the aesthetic codes of the motorcycle, with the fork an integral part of the front bumper and the double front and rear headlights in a vertical position. Between the driver’s legs is a compartment that can also be used as a cup holder. The removable Gogoro battery is housed under the seat of the electric scooter. Equipped with a handle, it can be easily removed to be exchanged for a ready-to-use battery in one of the GoStations charging stations.

In Asia, the Gogoro network has 10,000 stations. It is particularly dense in Taiwan, where the number of GoStations (2,215) is even about to exceed the number of gas stations (2,487). It is also in Taiwan that the Yamaha EMF will first be marketed.
