On March 31, the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 tournament in Counter-Strike 2 ended. Ukrainians Natus Vincere won the tournament and $500,000. However, the Twitch streamer xQc earned significantly more with her victory.
This is the situation:
Who made more money? Reaction streamer and commonly known as Gambler Félix “xQc” Lengyel has won $842,137 and 42 cents from Natus Vincere’s win by placing a sports bet, as shown in his stream.
This means he can make up for his losses from the quarterfinals, where he bet $200,000 on MOUZ, which lost to G2: That was the game in which a spectator stormed the stage and broke a trophy.
How did he react to that?: In the Twitch chat, someone explained to him that if he won the bet, he would make more money than the winners of the major.
xQc asked in amazement: “More than all of them combined?” and then laughed slightly hysterically.
Streamer warned against gambling for a long time and is now the major advertising medium for casinos
This is what lies behind it: xQc is on a strange path In 2021, he was always annoyed about his susceptibility to gambling and explained here how much money he lost and that he wants to get away from it:
He had stayed away from gambling for years because he knew how susceptible he was to these addiction mechanics. He never wanted anything to do with “gambling” and swore to his viewers that he would never do it:
In the last few months, xQc has apparently turned to the dark side when he took the millions from the online casino Stake to promote Kick, and is now publicly indulging his gambling addiction on a large scale.
Ultimately, we really have to warn that such examples of big wins are always accompanied by big losses.
xQc is also accused by fans of Counter-Strike 2 of playing as a casino advertising medium, not with their own money, but with the casino’s money – and that his winnings were fingered anyway (via hltv.org)
xQc has a special role here due to its deals and its enormous reach and should under no circumstances serve as a role model for anyone. He himself has repeatedly warned against his “degeneracy” and against “Gamba”, i.e. gambling.
