XPS 13 Plus: Dell’s new ultraportable bets on design

XPS 13 Plus Dells new ultraportable bets on design

Top start for the XPS 13 Plus. This new ultraportable, presented at CES 2022, is coming to France. And it is already available for sale on the American manufacturer’s website. It completes the XPS range from above, with a much higher entry ticket, ie a base price of 1598.86 euros (yes, that’s precise).

It is, first, the first XPS 13 available with 12th generation Intel chips. Two processors are offered in our latitudes: a Core i5-1240p and a Core i7-1260P, which differ in their frequency and the power of the Iris Xe GPU associated with them. As always with Dell, the characteristics are flexible according to your needs (RAM, screen, storage, etc.)

But the XPS 13 Plus stands out above all for its chassis. Slightly heavier than the other PCs in the range (1.23 kg), it promises to exploit the new Intel chips to their full potential, i.e. 28W, in particular thanks to a new cooling and air circulation system in The box.

What strikes the most, however, is the design of the machine, simplified to the extreme. The slightly larger screen (13.4 inches) gets rid of the thick black band of previous models, and achieves a coverage ratio of 91.9%. The trackpad, which works by haptic feedback, has been hidden. Finally, and this is perhaps Dell’s most radical decision, the “Function” keys have been replaced by a tactile surface, which is reminiscent of the Mac’s touch bar. It’s very pretty, but is it really practical? We will see it during the test!
