We’ve been talking about it for a year now, but it still hasn’t seen the light of day. Microsoft continues to work on a “Chromecast-style” HDMI dongle to enjoy streaming Game Pass games without a game console. Windows Central was able to obtain an interesting statement from a spokesperson for the American giant, which confirms the existence of this project, codenamed “Keystone”. But that also points to design concerns.
“Our vision for Xbox cloud gaming has not changed: our goal is to enable people to play the games they want, on the device they want, wherever they are. As we announced last year, we are working on a streaming device […] which can be connected to any TV or monitor without the need for a console he said.

But he also specifies that the project has evolved, and that it is a safe bet that we will have to wait before seeing the arrival of an Xbox HDMI key. “We made the decision to move away from the current version of the Keystone device. […] We will focus our efforts on a new approach that will allow us to bring Xbox cloud gaming to more gamers around the world. »
In other words, Microsoft still has work to do before marketing this device. Why such a turnaround? Mystery. It could be, as Windows Central speculates, a change in approach to the OS used. Could it use Android, and thus facilitate the arrival of third-party applications? Where to prefer a light version of Windows dedicated to this use, which would offer him greater control of the platform? One thing is certain: we will probably have to wait many more months before discovering this product.
