X Files star David Duchovny applied like crazy for a cult

David Duchovny is one of the most famous stars in Hollywood, not least thanks to The X-Files and Californication. But his breakthrough in the dream factory was marked by humiliation, as he revealed in his podcast Fail Better. In particular, the sitcom Full House triggers bitter memories in him.

Before The X-Files, David Duchovny messed up three Full House applications: “Really bad”

Duchovny explains:

I auditioned for all three major male roles in Full House. First as the father, then as John Stamos’ character, then as the third guy. I thought if I got one of those, it would change my life. I just had to pay my rent with it.

Full House revolves around a sports presenter (Bob Saget) who tries to raise his three daughters with his brother-in-law and a friend. The sitcom became a hit with audiences in the 90s. However, without Duchovny, who rejected three times in a row for the main roles And he knows why:

I was really bad with stuff like that. I had no idea how to do that sitcom stuff. Maybe I could have learned. But I wasn’t ready for the energetic performance they wanted.

In fact, sitcoms never became Duchovny’s speciality. After small roles in Twin Peaks and the bio-drama Chaplin, The X-Files made him a mega-star in 1993. If he had been successful in Full House, we might have missed out on his incomparable FBI agent Mulder.
