In Central Africa, at least 742 new species of plants and animals have been discovered in the rainforests of the Congo region in the last ten years.

This is evident from WWF’s new from the report.

The list includes 430 new plant species, 140 invertebrate species, 96 fish species, 22 amphibians, 42 reptiles, two bird species and 10 mammal species.

The report shows that the researchers have discovered, for example, two new species of bats, several new species of snakes and a new species of crocodile.

In addition, researchers have discovered different types of orchids and even new species of coffee.

More than 400 mammal species, 1,000 bird species, 700 fish species and more than 10,000 plant species live in the Congo river basin.

The organization points out that the rainforests of the Congo are threatened by deforestation.

– It is very important to protect and use forests responsibly so that we can find new species in the future as well, rainforest expert Olle Forshed states in the report.
