WWE 2K24 Review

We are making a solid entrance into the ring with the WWE 2K24 review. It seems like the game is finally on its way to recovery.

WWE 2K24 review: The latest version of the game is the newest game of the WWE 2K series, which was put to rest after its bad debut in 2020 and has managed to make itself a little better with every game it has released. As we mentioned in our WWE 2K23 review last year, the new focus of the series, which chose John Cena as its cover face, is Cody Rhodes.

We say that the series is getting better every year, but if you wonder whether these are just staff updates that are not much different from the old game or are they good enough to be sold as a new game, let’s examine it together.

Ring of the Immortals

There is an enjoyable section in the WWE 2K series called “Showcase”, where we get the chance to play important matches throughout a wrestler’s career. Showcase mode, where we experienced the careers of Rey Mysterio and John Cena in previous years, has a wider scale this year. In honor of 40 years of WWE, we can play iconic events with legendary wrestlers from American wrestling history in the “Showcase of the Immortals” mode. These include old matches such as “1987 Hulk Hogan – Andre The Giant”, “1989 Rick Rude – Ultimate Warrior”, as well as newer and different matches such as “2023 Bianca Belair – Asuka” and “2023 Roman Reigns – Cody Rhodes” . I would also like to point out that the transitions from videos to game moments look much better in this game.

These matches were so enjoyable that even I, who had not watched most of the matches, was pumped up, especially with the successful narration of the presenter and the events that took place. As I have played these games in recent years, they have helped me become more familiar with the world of American wrestling, which I normally have no interest in, and I write this as a success on the gaming side.

WWE 2K24 has many different game modes, even modes such as MyGM, MyFACTION, MyRISE, where we can only create and play our own character, allow us to stay in front of the game for a long time. We need to specifically mention the MyRISE mode here.

This year MyRISE mode offers two separate stories, Undisputed and Unleashed. Just like the career modes we know in Unleashed, we start our career as a new wrestler and fight to reach the top. In Undisputed, things are a little different, we control a wrestler who is already a master in the wrestling world. Our story begins with Roman Reigns relinquishing the “Universal Champion” title and we are trying to reach the highest point.

MyRISE mode is not much different from other 2K games in terms of gameplay. While trying to achieve our main goal, we encounter people, make various choices, and progress in our career according to the results. The presentation of the stories and the choices we make are not very detailed, I would even say it is too linear at one point, but it is also nice that it offers choices and is interesting enough to make people play from the beginning to see the results of the previous choices.

Referee Beats the Wrestler

MyGM mode doesn’t seem to have changed much compared to last year. It is a management game that offers the opportunity to establish our own agency and put on better shows than other rival agencies with the wrestlers we choose, to make your wrestlers popular, and at the same time to intervene in the rival shows, and it is a very entertaining mode in itself. I haven’t seen any major changes other than new GMs and updated wrestlers, but even as it is, it’s a mode that will take a lot of time at the beginning and I spent the most time in this mode.

MyFaction mode was a competitive mode where we didn’t pay real money for cards (for now) and I didn’t like it very much. This year, it returns by making some changes and editing some features that were found last year and were not liked by the players. Contract cards have been removed, search features have been improved, and the cards of the special wrestlers you have earned in MyRISE have been activated to be used in this mode.

The newly added match types to the game offer very entertaining opportunities for those who want different styles of competition. Casket is a genre that Undertaker introduced to us and our main goal is to put the opponent in the coffin and make sure that he does not come out. Ambulance is a similar type of fight, this time we try to put the opponent into the ambulance so that he can get to the hospital. Both are fun and funny match types to play. Gauntlet mode, which includes three different challenges, and Backstage Brawl mode, where four people compete, are other options.

The type of fight I had the most fun with was Special Guest Referee. As the referee of the match, we can delay as long as we want, make the countdown late or fast, and even switch to wrestler mode and beat anyone we want if we want. When we exaggerate the situation too much, the fans get angry and send another referee to take us to the field and manage the match properly, but the fun of it is to find the balance.

With WWE 2K24, which has more than 200 wrestlers, players who think that they are only in the wrestling part and will not bother to create their own character will be pleased. Considering the future DLC characters, I do not see an option of not finding a character to play with, we can even play as an action figure. If you want to create your own character, there is also a very detailed character creation menu. You can easily create any male or female wrestler you want.

Sound – Graphics – Performance

WWE 2K24, whose Playstation 5 version we reviewed, offers a very good performance. There are more fluid menus compared to previous years, and waiting times are not as annoying as before. This year, I have never come across characters whose arms turn into spaghetti after making a wrong move during a match. Considering that the animations are fluent and smooth, they have really improved themselves technically.

The voice acting part of the game is generally quite successful. I can say that there is already a perfect job regarding the hosts and wrestlers, everyone has successful voices, except for the acting of one or two characters in the MyRise mode. During the fight, sometimes there were delays in the sounds or strange sounds that made no sense. Not very noticeable, just small details like crowd noises that sometimes get excited when nothing is happening. I didn’t even pay much attention until I played with headphones.

The most annoying part of the game, like last year, is the behavior of the artificial intelligence. I mentioned that the artificial intelligence went crazy in the WarGames mode in the last game, and a similar situation applies here in crowded matches. It’s funny, especially in fights like 2v2, when he leaves the opponent and starts beating me. Also, the rival artificial intelligence is completely focused on beating us, so in matches with special conditions (such as Ambulance and Casket) there are fights at the level of “I faint, it wakes me up and beats us back”. Of course, there are no such problems when you play with your friends or in online matches.

Conclusion

WWE 2K24 is the last game of a series that grows stronger every year. Unlike other series that only update the squad and add a few fancy features to the game (which 2K’s own games also do), it is a content-rich, entertaining and high-quality fighting game. The production team, Visual Concepts, should be congratulated on this matter.
