President-elect of the United States Donald Trump’s the administration will begin large-scale deportation raids on Tuesday next week in Chicago, according to the US newspaper Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

Four sources familiar with the deportation plan tell the newspaper about it.

According to the WSJ, the raids are expected to last about a week, and 100 to 200 police officers are expected to be deployed to carry them out.

The Trump administration is set to target deportations of illegal immigrants who have committed minor crimes.

According to the paper, Trump’s camp wanted to make a cautionary example of those cities that have adopted practices that have limited cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

Immigrant policy at the center of the elections

Chicago was selected as the first target because of the city’s immigration numbers and the dispute between the Trump camp and the city’s mayor.
