WSJ reporter appeals arrest in Russia

The 31-year-old journalist was arrested in March this year in the city of Yekaterinburg and is accused of espionage. Both he and his employer deny the Russian authorities’ accusations, and the United States government labels Evan Gershkovich as being detained on false grounds.

US Ambassador Lynne Tracy was present in court and told AFP that “Russia is imprisoning Evan for doing his job”.

Russian authorities have not provided any evidence for the allegations.

In August, it was announced that the detention of Gershkovich was extended by three months. On Tuesday, there was no new news about the appeal – the court sent the case on to another court.
