Russia, which invaded Ukraine, will not participate in the meeting.

Saudi Arabia is scheduled to host a meeting on the war in Ukraine in August, the Wall Street Journal reports. According to the newspaper, Western countries, Ukraine and the largest developing countries, including India and Brazil, will participate in the discussions.

High-ranking officials from a total of up to 30 countries are scheduled to attend the August 5-6 meeting in Jeddah, WSJ’s diplomatic sources tell.

Officials of Ukraine and Western countries hope that international support for peace terms favorable to Ukraine would be achieved in the talks, WSJ reports.

The exact number of countries participating in the meeting is not yet known. The meeting is expected to be attended by at least those countries that participated in a similar round of negotiations in Copenhagen in June, the sources say.

Great Britain, South Africa, Poland and the EU have confirmed their participation, and the US national security adviser by Jake Sullivan are also expected to participate.

Russia will not participate in the meeting. The country also did not participate in the Copenhagen meeting in June.

Saudi Arabia has condemned Russia’s war of aggression and illegal territorial annexations in Ukraine with most other UN countries. The oil-producing country of the Persian Gulf has still continued to cooperate with Russia in energy policy.

This is not the first time that Saudi Arabia is trying to mediate in the Ukraine war. In September of last year, it surprised by negotiating the release of several imprisoned foreign fighters. Among those released were two Americans and five Britons.
