Selman Rushdie (75), the author of the book “The Satanic Verses”, was attacked at a conference in New York.
According to eyewitnesses, Rushdie, who was on stage to give a lecture at the Chautauqua Institute in Jamestown in the western part of the state, was attacked by a person.
ATTACKED WITH KNIFE
Rushdie fell to the ground after being repeatedly “punched or stabbed”. The attacker was brought under control, ambulance and police were called to the conference hall.
While information about Rushdie’s health was not shared, it was noted that the hall was evacuated after the attack.
THERE WAS A DEATH FATTA ABOUT
A death fatwa was issued by Ayatollah Khomeini, the Iranian leader of that time, about Rushdie, who drew the reaction of the Islamic world with his book Satanic Verses he wrote in the 1980s. (AA)
