Wrestling: The Olympic hope in wrestling Jonna Malmgren: “I don’t care about money – I want to be the best in the world”

The wrestler from Hörby in Skåne has already been the best in Europe twice with EC gold in the 53-kilogram class in both 2022 and 2023, which was followed up by a silver earlier this year.

Earlier in her career, she has also become junior world champion (2021) and won the Youth Olympics (2018).

Now awaits the biggest challenge of his career so far: the Olympic debut in Paris.

– It feels exciting, I’m about to fulfill one of my biggest dreams and I’m really excited to go to the Olympics and wrestle, she says to SVT Sport and continues:

– If everything goes well, I know that I have a medal chance, I have previously proven that I am at that level. That’s what I expect.

Living on the support: Under SEK 10,000

Malmgren lives on financial support from the Swedish Olympic Committee of less than SEK 10,000 a month.

Without that contribution and help from his family and partner, Malmgren, who does not have a job on the side, would not have been able to pursue his elite venture.

– You may think it’s unfair, but I’m not driven by the money, but do this because I love living this life. No money in the world can replace what I have experienced, she says.
