WoW reveals roadmap for 2023, wants to bring 6 content patches for Dragonflight

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

World of Warcraft wants to really take off with Dragonflight and bring many updates. A total of 6 patches are coming in 2023 – and there’s a lot in them.

World of Warcraft Dragonflight is less than a month old, but patch 10.0.5 is already on the PTR and this is just the beginning. The WoW developers have published a roadmap and explained what should happen in 2023. The goal that has been set is impressive: there should be a total of 6 content patches in the coming year. Four of them are a bit smaller, 2 are again “big chunks” – we’ll tell you all the details.

Patch 10.0.5

Release date: planned for early 2022

Patch 10.0.5 is the first small patch for Dragonflight and brings a number of improvements and desired features such as adjustments to the transmog system. The patch is already playable on the PTR.

  • Trading Post: A new system that introduces many new cosmetic rewards that can be earned over the course of weeks and months.
  • Morning of the Primalists: New features in the “Alternate Timeline” where the Primalists won.
  • White and Gray Transmogs: Inferior quality items will be unlocked for the transmogrification system. This allows new, simple looks.

    Patch 10.0.7

    Release date: Spring 2023

The 10.0.7 update makes the Forbidden Island accessible. Currently, entering the island will kill you instantly and there are no creatures there yet. So it will be a new, small area.

  • Return to the Forbidden Island: The starting island of the Dracthyr will also be accessible on the Dragon Islands and will bring new tasks with it.
  • Heritage Armor Humans and Orcs: The two most “original” of all races are finally getting their heritage armor in unique quest lines.
  • Holiday Updates: The various annual holidays will be revamped, with new content and fresh rewards.
  • Patch 10.1

    Release date: Spring 2023

This patch is the first “really big” update and accordingly comes with the “usual” features. So a new raid, a new raid and everything else that goes with a big content update.

  • New zone
  • New Raid
  • New PvP season
  • New dungeon rotation for Mythic+
  • Profession updates
  • UI improvements
  • WoW: Raszageth vs. Alexstrasza

    Patch 10.1.5

    Release date: Summer 10.1.5

Dungeon fans should be happy in summer, because a new mega dungeon is added to the game and will present exciting challenges to groups of 5. The core features are:

  • New mega dungeon
  • New World Events
  • Content and System Updates
  • Patch 10.1.7

    Release date: Fall 2023

10.1.7 is primarily intended to bring new story content and “renew” many holiday events. Exactly what that looks like remains to be seen.

  • Story & Quests
  • Holiday renewals
  • Content and system updates
  • Patch 10.2

    Release date: end of 2023

Blizzard wants to bring the second major content patch for Dragonflight by the end of 2024. There is also a new area, a new raid and the next PvP season.

  • New zone
  • New Raid
  • New PvP season
  • New dungeon rotation for Mythic+
  • More content and features
  • Even if Blizzard has only given very rough information about the later patches, it can already be guessed that the developers have planned the coming year pretty carefully.

More information on each content patch will be released in the coming months. Blizzard emphasizes that there is enough time and space to respond to player feedback and then add things that the community wants.

So the future for Dragonflight is looking pretty bright. Blizzard sets high standards for itself and sets the bar high. It remains to be seen whether the developers can keep that or have to cash in on their own promises over the course of the next year.

How do you like the Dragonflight roadmap? Do you think Blizzard can stick to the plans? What are you particularly looking forward to?
