WoW demon Cortyn is annoyed by his fellow players. Because especially in WoW they are never happy, no matter how much they get.
World of Warcraft players are doing extremely well right now. Even though Dragonflight is on its last legs and we’re technically in the “End of Expansion” phase, there’s still plenty of new content being released on a regular basis.
But the “big howling” never ends. If you look at Twitter/X or the various forums for the latest announcements, you might think that World of Warcraft hasn’t released any content for two years.
You can currently play the “Plunderstorm” mode:
A few days ago there was the announcement of “WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria”, a temporary mode in which you can experience “Mists of Pandaria” again – with new skills, lots of cool loot and numerous rewards that you can then use for Retail WoW unlocks.
If you look at X/Twitter posts from World of Warcraft Executive Producer Holly Longdale, you’ll find comments like the following:
I always find it amazing how quickly some World of Warcraft “fans” seem to forget how bad we usually had it at the end of an expansion. Just to use the two extreme dry spells as a comparison:
In Mists of Pandaria we played the final patch for a whole year – without any updates in between. That was Siege of Orgrimmar until everyone heard it – and then some.
The ending of “Warlords of Draenor” was also long and without updates and even the story was cut together and important character developments were simply canceled or skipped.
But instead of some people simply engaging in the content that is being offered, a group is constantly crying in the official forums and subreddit. People dismiss Plunderstorm as “bullshit” after a match and reject “WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria” right in advance because “it’s all just fast food content that’s been rehashed.”
At the same time, we not only got a patch 10.2.5 in WoW Dragonflight, but also an update 10.2.6 and the patch 10.2.7 is also coming in a few weeks, even with really dark quests. Not to mention revamped events like the Noble Garden Festival, Hearthstone’s Birthday Event or monthly activities like the Trading Post. There is also a season 4 of Dragonflight, which makes all raids and dungeons relevant again and completely changes the entire dungeon difficulty system.
And all of this comes as we are racing towards the next expansion, “The War Within,” being released, according to realistic estimates, in August or September, assuming there are no delays.
Fortunately, others have also noticed this, such as audioshaman in the WoW subreddit, who writes:
Do people have such short memories? This is the drought before expansion. For most of the last 20 years of this game, that has meant we get a year (or more) of NOTHING. Not a single update. Now we’re getting a Fated season and two brand new experimental game modes.
Not to mention that the patch also includes new story chapters/quests and two new legacy armors. This is the largest amount of content in a pre-expansion phase ever, and it’s not even close.
I wish more of these people would start to seriously question whether World of Warcraft is still the game they want to play. And if that’s not the case, then you’re welcome to cancel your subscription and leave the rest of the world alone.
I understand that you don’t like certain aspects. Not everyone likes PvP in Plunderstorm. Not everyone likes Pandaria. Not everyone likes a Season 4 with old raids. But if you don’t like any of it, then maybe it’s time to just try other games and leave Azeroth behind instead of trying to ruin everyone else’s fun too.
By the way, you should give Plunderstorm a longer chance – it really puts you in a good mood.
