World of Warcraft’s Mage Tower is closing again. And that, although Blizzard said that the special challenges remain permanent.
In World of Warcraft there are numerous tasks and challenges that require a lot of time. One of the most popular of these is the Mage Tower from Legion. There are several different challenging battles for all classes. If successful, the battles are rewarded with a special transmog.
The content was so popular that Blizzard brought it back with Timewalking: Legion and later even made it permanent because of the demand.
What happens now? In the official WoW forum, Blizzard has now announced that the mage tower will be closed again soon. With the launch of the major patch 10.0, the gates of the Mage Tower will be closed and the challenges will no longer be accessible.
Why is Blizzard doing this? According to Blizzard, they want to take their time to improve the Mage Tower “with a little extra work.”
The reason for this is probably the new talent system, which is only partially compatible with the mage tower. Because during the battles of the mage tower, the pact skills were deactivated because they would offer too much of an advantage. However, with the pre-patch of the new Dragonflight expansion, it is possible to obtain several of these covenant abilities through the talent system. This and other innovations should mean that the challenges of the mage tower are no longer as solvable as originally planned by Blizzard.
Should you hurry? This is probably a clear case of “it depends”. Blizzard wants to revamp this content and almost certainly adapt it to the new talent system. It is quite possible that the difficulty of the Mage Tower will change a bit. Some fights might be harder, others easier. So if you’re not sure, you should work hard and complete the battles now before the opportunity to do so disappears in a few days.
When is the mage tower coming back? That’s not sure yet. Blizzard is talking about “sometime after the launch of Dragonflight”, so probably in December at the earliest. As soon as there is a concrete date, we will of course report about it.
