WoW has bad news for everyone who finds depths really annoying

If you don’t feel like going deeper in World of Warcraft, there’s bad news. Because you’ll have to do more of it soon.

One of the biggest new features of World of Warcraft: The War Within was the depths. Even though there was a lot of chaos and balance problems at the beginning, the depths have been significantly improved with a few patches and are particularly attractive for solo fans. However, a lot will change – you will have to visit even more depths in Patch 11.1.

What is changing? The PTR is active and this already shows some of the changes that Blizzard will be making to Season 2 of The War Within. Probably the biggest change to the Depths so far: In order to unlock all 3 options of the weekly treasury in the “World” category, you have to complete a total of 12 activities. Or, to put it more clearly: For the maximum rewards you have to complete 12 depths per week.

All 3 options are harder to achieve as they will require more activities:

  • 1st Place: 3 Activities (World Events or Depths) – an increase of 1
  • 2nd Place: 6 Activities (World Events or Depths) – an increase of 2
  • 3rd place: 12 activities (World Events or Depths) – an increase of 4
  • This means that in the future you will have to play significantly more in order to have all the options to choose from.

Please note that this is information from the PTR so far. A lot can still change before patch 11.1 Undermine(d) is released.

Why is this annoying? Depths are a new feature from The War Within that has largely divided the community.

Many people love the depths because they can get good gear at their own pace, even on their own. As small “solo dungeons”, everyone can celebrate successes based on their own commitment, time and ability and earn solid rewards without social pressure.

However, many others found the depths annoying. Especially at the start of a season, completing depths can feel like a “chore” in order to have as many options in the treasury as possible.

This is also why there is a bit of an outcry that you need to spend even more time in the depths to get the maximum rewards. In addition, there is the problem that only “rich” depths bring the full reward. However, you can only visit 4 of them per day. So if you want to do all 12 depths for the treasury, you have to do 4 depths each at least 3 days a week. That’s a pretty big time investment when you compare it to the other categories, which you can basically tick off in an evening or two at most.
But Patch 11.1 also brings good improvements – the warband gets cool cosmetic upgrades.
