WoW gets the next big patch in July

Blizzard has announced the release date for patch 10.1.5 in World of Warcraft. This not only brings a new mega dungeon and many revisions, but also a number of daily quests that are seen very controversially.

When will Patch 10.1.5 be released? The new update called “Cracks in Time” will be released on July 12th.

What’s in it? The highlights are:

  • The new mega dungeon “Dawn of the Eternals” with 8 bosses
  • A new specialization for the Caller class
  • Dragon riding in the old game world
  • Warlocks are unlocked for new races and given a quest to change the appearance of their minions
  • Time Rifts appear as new events in the open world
  • However, the biggest discussion about this update is the daily quests in collaboration with the Bronze Dragonflight. These are sometimes criticized for their harshness and one task was even completely removed before the release.

We’ve summarized everything about the content here: Patch 10.1.5 is huge, brings mega dungeon, new caller specialization and mage rework.

The Horse of Arthas and the Death of Amber Kearnen

Which quests are viewed critically? Part of the new update revolves around “unraveling the time streams” in the Frontier of the Aeon. Every day there is a new quest in the inn in Thaldraszus, in which you have to complete various tasks that took place in the past.

You have to make sure that the event really happens. But that is exactly what is difficult in one or the other task.

An example is the quest for Amber Kearnen, an agent from SI:7. She appeared in several expansions, but was found murdered with a knife in her back in Legion. It is precisely this process that we have to restore and in doing so we even become the assassin who carries out the deed.

There is criticism here that we could theoretically ensure the continuity of the timeline without killing Amber, in which the message she was carrying would still have been delivered.

Another quest has us bringing frozen rocks to Lordaeron to be really sure that Invincible, Arthas’ horse, falls and he has to redeem it. This was a formative event for the young prince and influenced his further development into the Lich King.

However, one of those daily quests went too far and received so much backlash that Blizzard has since removed it from the game. It revolved around Alexstrasza and her imprisonment with the Dragonmaw clan.

However, there is also a relaxing quest where you experience the childhood of Jaina Proudmoore, who turns guards into sheep.

    Praise for fast release rhythm

How is the patch received? Even if the daily quests received some criticism, the patch is viewed very positively overall. It has an acceptable scope and breadth so that everyone gets something to do – especially the dungeon and dragon riding.

A few small things are also praised on Twitter and Reddit, including:

The general release rhythm is also positively emphasized. Only 10 weeks will have passed between the last major update 10.1 and the upcoming patch. The next update should follow in autumn, before Winter Patch 10.2 will come later.

What do you think of this new “intermediate patch”? Do you like the changes?
