WoW announces new expansion “The War Within” at BlizzCon

The next expansion of World of Warcraft was announced at BlizzCon 2023. It is called “The War Within”.

BlizzCon 2023 has started and all big announcements are traditionally made during the opening ceremony. There was an immediate hit for World of Warcraft fans as the next expansion was revealed.

What is the expansion about? In the new expansion, the heroes travel into the depths of Azeroth and visit new and familiar races. For example the earthen people or the Nerubians who live there. The entire action will take place within Azeroth – so there will mainly be “underground” areas. We can be curious to see whether Blizzard manages to deliver enough color and thematic variety here.

The reason for this is that Azeroth screams from the depths of the planet. However, it is only the beginning of a saga that will extend over several expansions.

The protagonists of the story are Anduin and Thrall. Anduin has just returned from the Shadowlands and apparently has great self-doubt. But Thrall manages to convince him to act – only to be tormented again by the voice from within.

What are the highlights of the expansion? Some information has already been revealed:

  • You meet the Nerubians in their kingdom deep underground
  • Earthen dwarves become a new allied race
  • “Dragon Riding” is coming to all flying mounts around the world
  • There are “Delves” as new mini-dungeons for small groups looking for treasure
  • There are “warbands” for your characters – reputation and unlocks become account-wide
  • Transmog can be unlocked with any character in the collection – even if the character cannot wear armor

    • When will The War Within be released? A release date for the new expansion has not yet been given, other than “next year.” However, it can be assumed that the release will take place in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2024. As soon as there is an official release date, we will report on it.
