On July 15, the city will start an experiment where tourists can collect prizes for environmental actions.

Copenhagen is starting to reward tourists for environmentally friendly behavior, says BBC.

The reward can be obtained by collecting garbage, working in the city garden or using a bicycle and public transport.

A tourist can redeem for example lunch, ice cream, a glass of wine, a borrowed kayak or a visit to a museum in return for the aforementioned acts.

According to the city’s board responsible for tourism, the city has 24 locations offering rewards. You can receive the award at the destination by announcing what you have done for the environment.

The purpose of the project is to reduce the environmental burden caused by tourism. The experiment starts on July 15 and lasts almost a month.

More than 12 million tourists stayed in Copenhagen last year.
