The new Twitch alternative Kick is currently attracting massive amounts of content creators with good conditions and lucrative deals. For Fortnite streamer Dennis “cloakzy“ Lepore, however, has more important things. He explains why he turned down a million-dollar deal at the time.
The ability to leave Twitch is a concern for many streamers right now. Because the dissatisfaction with the platform is great and the competition in the form of Kick lures with a 95% share of subs and deals worth millions.
Many feel reminded of Microsoft’s attempt to build its own alternative to Twitch with Mixer. Even then, big streamers were poached, such as Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, who was huge at the time thanks to Fortnite.
In a joint stream with Ninja and TimTheTatman, Twitch streamer Dennis “Cloakzy” Lepore revealed why he stayed loyal to the purple platform despite a million dollar offer.
His fans were more important to streamers
What was that deal? According to Cloakzy, despite Ninja’s frantic attempts to keep him from revealing too much, Mixer reportedly offered him $7 million to move a few years ago.
However, the streamer rejected the deal and also gave the reason directly: His fans and their existing subscriptions were simply more important to him:
I said no because I care about every single person who has subscribed to me and their sub streaks. That’s what was important to me. I said no to $7 million.
However, Cloakzy also hinted that it was by no means an easy decision, as it’s a lot of money for him too: “It would have been double what I’ve made on Twitch in 10 years.”
What about a switch to Kick then? Whether Cloakzy’s priorities have changed in the meantime, we will probably not know for the time being. The Twitch streamer actually has something else to say: “I’m just saying if Kick would offer me that kind of money…”
At this point, however, he is finally interrupted by his colleague Ninja, who probably doesn’t want Cloakzy to divulge any more confidential information. You can find a recording of the stream in English on TimTheTatman’s YouTube channel, the deal starts at 2:56:00.
Ninja himself is said to have gone to Mixer for $20 to $30 million at the time. After the platform went down, he simply returned to Twitch again.
However, others rejected the Microsoft platform offer. So does Twitch streamer Chance “Sodapoppin” Morris. However, he is still annoyed about having turned down the lucrative deal:
