“Worst way to make money”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is being sued.
A tenant of the football star is anything but satisfied and now demands a trial.
– It is the worst way to make money, says lawyer Bengt Öhman.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic ended his fantastic football career this spring. For over 20 years, the Swede belonged to the absolute top of the world elite, and he completely dominated in big clubs such as Milan, PSG and Manchester United.

In windy weather

Considering the incredible success, Ibrahimovic also managed to make some money. Zlatan was for many years one of the world’s best paid players, and in addition he has had some of the world’s most lucrative sponsorship contracts. Last year, Ibrahimovic made an investment when he and wife Helena Seger bought an apartment building on Östermalm in Stockholm. The cost landed at SEK 130 million. But now the house has meant problems for the star.

One of the tenants in the home is said to have rented a second-hand apartment through a rental company, at a cost of SEK 12,000 a month. Now the landlord has terminated the tenant – who then responded by suing the property owner, which is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The tenant believes that the person has the right to stay under the same conditions as before, and also believes that there is legal support for this.

“The worst way”

According to a previous decision in the Supreme Court, tenants have been given the right in cases where companies acted as intermediaries, which made it possible for property owners to charge more in rent. However, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has chosen not to meet the demand from the tenant, who is being forced out of the apartment. But it is nothing that the guest is satisfied with.

Instead, he has chosen to take the whole thing to the Stockholm district court, and with him he has the Tenants’ Association, where the lawyer Bengt Öhman is very critical of the arrangement of “bulvanföretat”, where renting through intermediaries enables higher rents.

– That landlords use bulvan companies to charge higher rent and round the rent law is a huge problem. Our member did not know his rights before contacting us, and in fact most tenants do. The landlords exploit their ignorance and desperate need for housing to make more money, that’s the worst way to make money. The tenants have to live on grace, pay high rents and can be forced to move at short notice, says Bengt Öhman to Hem & Hyra, who was the first to draw attention to the case.
