Worst video game adaptation ever – what went wrong with the disastrous first Mario movie

Worst video game adaptation ever what went wrong with

The Super Mario Bros. movie could be one of the biggest box office hits of the year. That would be good enough to free the video game series from its bad shame from 1993. The first adaptation, Super Mario Bros., was namely a terrible flop. And our colleague Yves also knows why.

Check out Yves’ take on the first Super Mario movie here:

If Poop Was A Movie Super Mario Bros (1993) Review (1)

As he reveals in the video, there was a lot that didn’t add up in the film. the makers transplanted the plot into a dinosaur parallel dimension, where Fiesling King Koopa (Dennis Hopper) kidnaps Princess Daisy (Samantha Mathis) and is followed by New York plumbers Mario (Bob Hoskins) and Luigi (John Leguizamo).

The hair-raisingly whimsical ideas, the wooden acting and the holey screenplay let the film go down at the box office and the critics. Hoskins later described the shoot, speaking to the Guardian, as one of the worst experiences of his life. Effects and production design alone came off well in the general judgment, as can be read in the New York Times, for example.

When will the new Super Marios Bros. movie hit theaters?

Every fan can only hope that the new adaptation of the video game series does it better. The film is due on April 5, 2023 come to the cinema. In the original, among others, Marvel star Chris Pratt is represented with his voice.
