World War II bomb in Plymouth defused

The half-ton bomb found in a backyard in Plymouth, England, on Tuesday has now been defused.
The bomb, which was from World War II, forced one of the largest evacuations in modern peacetime in the country on Friday.

More than 3,000 residents of Plymouth were evacuated from their homes on Friday as a Second World War bomb was to be taken out of the water and defused.

Now the bomb, which weighed half a ton, has been destroyed in a controlled explosion at sea.

– I think you can honestly say that the last few days will be remembered in Plymouth’s history, says Tudor Evans, who leads the city council in the city.

In order not to risk any lives, 10,000 residents of Plymouth, Great Britain, had to leave the cordoned off areas when the bomb was to be carried out into the English Channel.

The city has been one of the country’s primary naval bases, and thus became one of the cities hardest hit by Nazi Germany’s bombing raids during World War II.
