World War II battleships are located at record depths

A battleship resting at a depth of almost seven kilometers has been identified off the Philippines. This is reportedly a record depth. Several U.S. warships sank in World War II as a result of the Japanese attacks.

The USSR USS Samuel B Roberts sank in the waves off the island of Samarin in October 1944.

Now information about the ship has been received again. An American research team says it has located the ship on the seabed while raking a World War II battlefield.

Philippine waters belong to ship cemeteries. Several ships have sunk at sea in the battles between Japan and the United States. The discovery of the “Sammy B” was reported by the Oceanic Research Group in Calada. The cameras of the manned submarine photographed the damaged hull of the ship.

The wreck underwent several dives during the week earlier this month. The Texas company says there are torpedo triggers left on board, among other things.

According to Calican Oceanic, this is the deepest wreck found and studied. Sammy B rests at a depth of 6895 meters. The investigation team has also identified several other wrecks of warships. The suite features material from the USS Johnston.

According to the history of the U.S. Navy, the ship drifted after being hit for almost three days. Several crew members were drowned and wounded in the shark’s groin. Of the 224 crew, 89 sailors died.

The ship took part in the naval battle of Leytenlahti, which lasted for several days. Three other U.S. Navy vessels also sank as a result of the fighting.

The USS Johnston was located in 2021. The USS Gambler is still missing, as is the USS Hoel.

The world’s most famous wreck, the Titanic rests at a depth of about 4,000 feet. The bottom of the car ferry that sank in 1994 at the sinking point in Estonia is at a depth of 80 meters.
