Tensions on the Kosovo-Serbia border are at an extreme. The conflict is only a matter of time, and Defense Minister Milos Vucevic stated that the instruction given by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic means this. On Vucic’s instruction, the army and the police were on alert in the country, while the attack on a television team in the north of Kosovo increased the tension.
“IN ANY CASES, IT CAN MEAN ARMED CONFLICT”
Defense Minister Milos Vucevic stated that Vucic had instructed the Serbian army to be “prepared for the highest war”, adding that this could mean armed conflict if necessary.
Vucevic said there is no room for panic. “But there is room for concern. It seems that only Serbia believes that the problems will be resolved through political agreement. The other side (Kosovo) is constantly acting on its own.” said.
Interior Minister Bratislav Gasic noted that President Vucic also ordered the police to “be ready” and stated that the aim is to protect Serbs in Kosovo.
THE BARRICLES HAVE NOT BEEN REMOVED
While the barricades that Kosovo Serbs have set up in the north of Kosovo since 10 December in response to the detention of former Serbian police officer Dejan Pantic are still not removed, the recent events have again escalated the tension between Kosovo and Serbia.
After Serbia sent the chief of staff to the border region, the two countries faced each other as a result of the armed attack that took place in the north of Kosovo last night.
Reacting to Pantic’s detention, Kosovo Serbs have been standing guard at the barricades they set up at the Bernjak border crossings for 17 days since 10 December.
The EU, NATO and the US called for de-escalation and removal of barricades in northern Kosovo.
ATTACK ON MEDIA WORKERS IN KOSOVO
Meanwhile, a local television crew in northern Kosovo was attacked with stones by masked people.
Kosovo Journalists Association AGK) reacted to the stone attack made by masked people against the employees of “Klan Kosova” television in Zupç village of Zubin Potok Municipality, where mostly Serbs live in northern Kosovo.
