World guitarist Jeff Beck is dead – he was 78 years old

One of the world’s foremost rock guitarists, the British virtuoso Jeff Beck, has died in the aftermath of an inflammation. This is announced by the family and condolences are now pouring in from the music world.

The music magazine Rolling Stone has ranked him as the fifth best guitarist of all time with a musical breadth ranging from hard rock to jazz and funky blues. He broke through in the 1960s in the same vein as world stars Jimmi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page.

He won eight Grammys and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice – once with the group The Yardbirds in 1992 and once as a solo artist in 2009.

The news of his death is being met with consternation in the music world.
