One by one, the health myths practiced by many around the world have collapsed. One of Britain’s most beloved names, Dr. Sara Kayat listed the mistakes that everyone knows to be true in a television program she participated in. Dr. Kayat’s advice surprised the audience. She covered many topics from drinking 8 glasses of water a day to ear cleaning.
NO NEED TO CLEAN EARS
Dr. Ear cleaning was one of the most notable topics Sara Kayat dealt with. Saying that the ears are self-cleaning, Dr. Kayat said that using items such as cotton swabs can damage the ears. Every time you put a cotton swab in your ear, you risk damaging the tiny hairs and lining of the skin, which can lead to infections, she added. In addition, you can accidentally puncture or rupture the eardrum.
Warts do not need to be treated
According to the healthcare professional, a wart, although unpleasant, is just a virus. Dr. Kayat said, “As we know, our body can get rid of viruses on its own. For some people, it may only take a few months. If you are very uncomfortable, of course, you can have warts treated. But you don’t have to. For most people, they go away on their own eventually.’
NO NEED TO DRINK EIGHT GLASSES OF WATER A DAY
Dr. While pointing out that staying hydrated is important, Kayat described the number eight as ‘a completely arbitrary number’. “I can’t find any evidence to say why everyone should specifically drink eight glasses a day,” he said.
WATCHING TV IN THE DARK IS NOT BAD FOR THE EYES
Although many people think watching TV in the dark is bad for their eyes, Dr. That’s not the case, Kayat said. “There may be temporary changes in your eyes… you may experience eye strain, but these are all temporary changes and therefore do not cause permanent damage.”
YOU DON’T COLD BECAUSE YOU ARE COLD
While many people believe that going outside in cold weather can make you cold, this is not true, according to the doctor. He said: ‘Going outside in cold weather is not the reason you catch a cold. To really get a cold there has to be a virus out there. So just being in a cold environment is not the reason you catch a cold.’
CRACKING JOINTS DOES NOT CAUSE ARTHRITIS
You’ve probably heard the myth that joint cracks cause arthritis. Dr. That’s not the case at all, Kayat says: ‘People think… it’s joints and bones rubbing against each other causing this sound, but it’s actually just a little bit of gas, a gas bubble between the joints.
THE FIVE SECOND RULE IS NOT TRUE
According to the ‘five seconds’ rule, there is no harm in consuming food that has fallen to the ground (as long as you take it within this time).
Dr. As Kayat explains, this is not quite true. ‘Yes, [yemek yerde] “The longer it is, the more likely it is to come into contact with bacteria,” he said. “It is possible for him to get a germ from the ground, even for a second”
