World Cancer Day is an initiative of theinternational union against cancer (UICC), the world’s largest and oldest international cancer organization uniting more than 1,200 organizations across 172 countries. This day was instituted by the Charter of Paris adopted at the World Cancer Summit for the new millennium in Paris February 4, 2000, set out in section 10 of the Charter. This Charter aimed to:

  • Promote research to cure and prevent disease
  • Improve the services provided to patients
  • Improve awareness of common opinion
  • Improve the mobilization of the global community against cancer
