    On the occasion of World Asthma Day, the Asthma & Allergies association wishes to raise public awareness of the difficulties encountered daily by people with asthma.

    How to live with severe asthma? How to bear the gaze of others? It is in an attempt to answer all these questions that the Asthma & Allergies association is organizing on May 3, 2022, on the occasion of the 23rd edition of World Asthma Day, a series of videos accompanied by patient testimonials. and a webinar hosted by pulmonologists.

    Asthma, a scourge that affects millions of French people

    In France, more than 4 million people suffer from asthma, ie 6.7% of the population and 9% of children. The disease is responsible for 600,000 days of hospitalization and 1,000 deaths per year among people under 65.

    This chronic bronchial disease is characterized by attacks of choking with difficulty exhaling and is often accompanied by fits of dry cough.

    To raise public awareness of this chronic respiratory disease, a World Asthma Day is organized by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA). In France, this is governed by the Asthma and Allergies Association.

    “Filling the Gaps in Asthma Care”

    This year, the focus is on the many gaps in asthma care.

    They are present in equal access to diagnosis and treatment, between rich and poor communities and countries, in communication and care across the interface of primary/secondary/tertiary care, in knowledge of the Asthma and asthma awareness between health care providers, between scientific evidence and the actual delivery of care to people with asthma… The list goes on, but the challenges faced by people with asthma are very real.

    The challenge posed by this year’s theme is for international respiratory communities to work with colleagues, patients and health care providers to identify and address gaps in asthma care and to help implement and to share innovative solutions locally and globally”underlines the Gina on its website.

    A plural campaign to harmonize the management of asthma

    It is in this sense that the association has built its campaign, consisting of a series of short videos – “crossed views” – with testimonials from patients and the commentary of Pr Gilles Garcia, pulmonologist, president of the association. They will be posted on May 3, 2022 on the association’s website and will cover the following topics:

    • “Not always easy to know what to do in an emergency”;
    • Not always easy to take your treatment regularly”;
    • “Not always easy to recognize the symptoms of asthma”;
    • “It’s not always easy to live with severe asthma”;
    • “Not always easy to bear the gaze of others”;
    • “It’s not always easy to communicate well with your doctor”;
    • “It’s not always easy to play sports”.

    A webinar will also be broadcast live on the association’s Facebook page from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. It will be led by pulmonologists Gilles Garcia and Nicolas Roche.

    Finally, a campaign on social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube…) will be carried out.
