Pizza maker Paolo Dimitrio at Cafe Rossini in the French city of Saint-Etienne turned out to be someone else entirely – namely the wanted double murderer and mafia member Edgardo Greco.
Greco, now 63, was convicted in 1991 of beating to death two members of a rival gang with an iron pipe. For 17 years he was on the run and for the last three years he lived a double life as a pizza baker in France.

In 2021, he felt far enough from Italian justice to appear in a local newspaper in Saint-Etienne and talk about his restaurant’s traditional Italian dishes.
But – the Italian justice system never gave up on finding him. After two years of surveillance, French police were able to arrest him on Thursday. Now he will be extradited to Italy where he can expect a life sentence for double murder.
