Worked 1.5 years at Luleå Municipality – without a work permit

The man, who has worked within the municipality since the summer of 2023, was permanently employed in November for a violation of the Aliens Act. The reason is that he lacks a work permit, something that P4 Norrbotten first reported.

The manager who hired him is also prosecuted because it is punishable to employ a person without a work permit.

– It’s very serious. After all, we as an authority are obliged to comply with the law as all other employers. We are now reviewing existing routines to ensure that it does not happen again, says Nina Lind, HR manager at the Social Administration.

Denies crime

According to the preliminary investigation, the manager states that she did not know that the man lacked a work permit. She says she got to see the man’s LMA card, a identification that shows that the person is asylum seekers and has the right to be in Sweden pending a decision.

The prosecutor demands that the municipality pay SEK 117,600 in a special fee according to the Aliens Act. Both the boss and the man deny crime.
