The main objective of the study is not only to provide a solid set of data relating to the importance of English proficiency, but also to offer a detailed look at the fundamental link between language mastery and professional success. With English becoming increasingly important in the global workplace, investing in your language skills can be the key to opening up new opportunities and improving your job position.

According to the data that emerged, 85% of global respondents said English was essential to their working livesa trend destined to grow: 88% of those interviewed, in fact, believe that the importance of knowing how to speak fluently will continue to increase in the next five years. Only 32% of those who reported having limited English proficiency are in management roles, this number more than doubled to 76% among those with advanced proficiency. This shows how a full command of this language is often associated with leadership positions. One aspect highlighted by the research is people’s willingness to improve their English skills to secure better-paid jobs and greater financial security. Globally, 39% of young people believe they could earn between 60 and 100% more if they were able to work by expressing themselves better in English. A good knowledge of the language improves the working sphere not only in economic terms, but also with respect to the social dimension of work, that of relationships. The survey revealed that around 30% of those interviewed want to improve their knowledge of the English language precisely to acquire better self-confidence, which is in fact reflected in professional relationships. In fact, only 10% of employees with limited knowledge of the language believe they can fully express themselves at work while almost double, 19%, feel limited due to their lack of competence. This not only impacts self-esteem, but can also limit opportunities to showcase one’s skills such as attending meetings or writing reports.
The data shows that English constitutes a crucial lever for a potential career. In the world of work the verdict is overwhelming: according to a survey by the Cambridge Assessment English body, 96% consider it a fundamental requirement and 64% believe that an employee with excellent knowledge of the language has a better chance of making a career. Notably, 50% of interviews are conducted partly or entirely in English, significantly higher than the global average of 32%. The research also highlighted that a better English skills favor faster career progression in 16% of cases and can lead to a significant salary increase. Furthermore, compared to other nations, Italy stands out for being the only one that recognizes this skill as a key factor when artificial intelligence leads to the search for a professional alternative. This research highlights how the English language plays an increasingly fundamental role in the world of work, both at a global and local level.
