Work stress causes mental problems

Being stressed at work causes many negative situations in terms of both professional and daily activities. People who experience stress get sick more easily and their quality of life decreases. Anxiety and stress caused by daily life, imbalances between work and private life, and childcare, the number of people who feel exhausted is increasing day by day. Stating that stress arises when the physical and mental limits of the person are threatened and forced, Dr. Instructor Member Filiz Şükrü Gürbüz also drew attention to the fact that stress can show many different physical and mental symptoms.

BURNOUT IS A RESULT OF INTENSIVE JOB STRESS

“Research shows that mental problems are more common in people who experience intense job stress. Burnout is one of the most important problems caused by job stress. Burnout is the emotional and behavioral problems that occur as a result of intense work stress in individuals. Individuals with burnout have emotional problems such as reluctance to go to work, fatigue, decreased energy, and behavioral problems such as being late for work, not showing up for work, not paying attention to the work done, and negative attitudes towards colleagues and/or service providers.

Stating that the stress level of the employees is affected by many factors arising from the job itself, the employer or the institution in the working environment, Gürbüz said, “Exposing to intense stress increases the risk of making mistakes and accidents. Unwillingness of employees to go to work causes an increase in dismissals and a decrease in the quality of the work done. It has also been determined that the problems experienced due to work stress can lead to large financial losses in institutions.

“In order to improve interpersonal relations within the organization and improve the skills of employees to cope with stress effectively, it is also very important to organize psychoeducational trainings in areas such as effective stress management, communication and anger management for corporate employees.”
