Work part-time with full salary – already after the summer

Work part time with full salary already after the summer

Working four days a week instead of five has long been on the back burner. Now it can become a reality for about 20 companies that get shorter working weeks with maintained pay, as part of a six-month study, reports Today’s news.

The study is carried out by the non-profit organization 4 Day Week Global, which studies the effects of shorter work weeks and was started in New Zealand. Then the study will be followed by a research team led by Lena Lid Falkmanresearcher at the Stockholm School of Economics and lecturer at Karlstad University.

Advantages of a shorter working week

Sweden is alone in Scandinavia in having 40 hours of work per week. Both Denmark and Norway have decreased by 37 and 37.5 hours of work per week respectively.

– I am interested in how we can work smarter and believe that the working life of the future must include more recovery so that we can perform and feel better. Today, the number of sick people in many cases points in the wrong direction, says Anna-Carin AlderinSwedish representative for 4 Day Week Global, to Dagens Nyheter.

Recruitment for the study is in full swing and right now five workplaces are ready. But the goal is to get up to around 20 pieces. Then the study starts on November 1 and lasts for six months.

– I conduct dialogue both with private, municipal and regional employers. It is quite mixed, some logistics company, some electricity company, says Alderin to the newspaper.

What determines whether a workplace can be included in the study differs. Some workplaces are severely affected by sick leave, some find it difficult to recruit and others to retain their employees.

– I am above all interested in how employees can deliver the same amount of work in shorter working hours and what they do with the time they are free, says Falkman.
