Rico Rodriguez is known as one of the most talented characters in gaming history. Equipped with innovative gadgets such as a grappling hook, jetpack, wingsuit and portable rocket boosters, Rodriguez moves across a different battlefield in each game. Rico, who is usually tasked with saving nations from cruel dictators by working with rebels and revolutionaries, is called “toppler” by gamers, meaning “a leader who wants to take action and eliminate oppressive institutions and the symbols of these institutions.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Just Cause movie has been confirmed to be in production. After changing hands numerous times, the license passed to Universal Pictures, and the project was given further momentum given the recent success of live-action adaptations of video games.

The film is produced by Kelly McCormick and David Leitch. The duo will collaborate with Dmitri Johnson, Mike Goldberg and Timothy Stevenson, who worked together on Tomb Raider and Sonic the Hedgehog films. The film will be directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, who recently directed Blue Beetle.

The biggest question is who will portray Rico Rodriguez. Names such as Javier Bardem, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Pedro Pascal and Diego Luna are being talked about behind the scenes.
