Work environment problems at home care – Gävle municipality is threatened with a fine

The staff at Valbo/Forsbacka home care feel that the employer has not done enough to address the employees’ busy schedules. Now they have the support of the Work Environment Agency, which issued an order demanding that the municipality investigate the employees’ workload.

Infected mood

When SVT talks to staff at the workplace, they say that there has been an infected atmosphere between staff and management.

– We feel that the managers listened but that nothing happened, says an employee.

Above all, it is the employees who have long journeys who say that the scheduled time to move between different residences does not correspond to reality.

– It takes longer than planned and what happens is that we have to take time off from our users to get to the next place. We need more staff to meet our schedules.

The municipality is investigating

Helen Polmé is office manager for support in the home at Gävle municipality. She says that the municipality takes the Work Environment Agency’s criticism very seriously.

– We have brought in an external actor who investigates the situation, conducted in-depth interviews with the employees and works to develop risk analyses.

The municipality has until 31 May 2024 to review the problems.
