A new scam that preys on the compassion of its victims is now making the rounds in the Woodstock area, police warn.

The scam, police said, involves a text message or phone call from someone claiming to be a youth who desperately needs money for food.

Anyone who has lost money to this scam – or any other frauds – is urged to contact Woodstock police at 519-537-2323. If a resident wishes to report a fraud attempt, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center can be contacted at 1-888-495-8501.
