The Finkle Street playground is set on a special rubberized surface that allows for greater accessibility for folks with mobility challenges, including those who need assertive devices. While soft and cushiony during warmer temperatures — providing an extra layer of safety for climbing children — the surface can become “hard and slippery” when the temperatures fall, city officials warned in a release.
The playground does offer a range of different play zones for children — and the young-at-heart — to explore and enjoy, including climbing structures, slides, ramps, sensory features and independent play areas. The playground was designed for “users of all abilities” to experience, officials said.
A large shade pavilion also separates the playground from a new splash pad that is slated to open in June 2025. This splash pad will boast a variety of spray features, including an enormous splash bucket, for younger and older children to enjoy in the summer months .
In the spring, the city will also be installing additional site furniture, including picnic tables and benches, before a planned grand opening.
