Stratford police reported Monday that a motorist was traveling east on Lorne Avenue in a black Nissan Murano just before 12:30 pm before rear-ending a black Mercedes SUV, causing it to collide with a blue Honda. The driver of the Nissan reportedly fled the scene, heading east on Lorne Avenue and striking a black van before turning south on Downie Street.

A description of the driver and vehicle was provided while its license plate had reportedly been left stuck in the rear of the Mercedes when the driver fled the scene. A suspect was later arrested in Woodstock by officers with that city’s department.

The suspect now faces five charges of failure to stop after an accident and dangerous operation of a vehicle, as well as the Highway Traffic Act offenses of failing to report an accident, careless driving and disobeying a stop sign. The suspect was released and is expected to appear in court on Oct. 7.
