Woodkid turned to Unreal Engine 5 to make the music

Musical artist who has his entrances in the video game, Woodkid has just released his last song entitled “Reactor”. Why are we talking about it today in the columns of Jeuxactu, beyond its friendship with the game designer Hideo Kojima? Quite simply because the latter used the Unreal Engine 5 to completely design the clip for his song. Explores the relationship between humanity and technology, nature and machines, this track was directed by Saad Moosajee, whom he met on social media. This clip of “Reactor” also required hundreds of hours of work with the Unreal Engine 5, with in particular some challenges to be met. We learn that the rendering of the lava was the most complex part to implement, to the point that 6 animation departments were hired to work on this clip composed of 44 shots.

Obviously, looking at this track, it’s hard not to think of Japanese anime from the 90s which have already explored this theme hundreds of times, especially on the side of Ghost in the Shell, Gunnm (Battle Angel Alita for the Western name), or good again Akira. These cinematographic references were moreover the heart of the inspiration of Woodkid who grew up with these works from Japan. Moreover, it is fashionable that the latter is a 39-year-old Frenchman and that his culture has also been shaped by Japanese cartoons as well as video games. So the loop is somehow closed.
