Won the Swedish shooting league in the NHL – and broke a 30-year-old record

Last round in the NHL.
Then Adrian Kempe stepped forward, and passed William Nylander and Elias Pettersson.
The star won the Swedish goal-scoring league in the NHL – and also broke a 30-year-old record.

There wasn’t much to play for when it came to securing playoff spots when the NHL’s final regular season game was played last night. But for our Swedish stars there were individual records and records to fight for. Erik Karlsson and Elias Pettersson have both reached over 100 points this season.

Became the best Swede

But the battle for the Swedish shooting league in the NHL was very much alive, and there was a real drama about first place. Before the last round, Elias Pettersson, William Nylander, Mika Zibanejad and Adrian Kempe were all involved and beaten. Two out of four scored in the night’s games, and best of all was Adrian Kempe.

The Swedish star has had a hugely impressive season when it comes to scoring in the NHL. Before the last round, he had scored 38 goals, the same as Elias Pettersson, and one less than William Nylander and Mika Zibanejad. Pettersson scored in the Canucks’ last game, and stepped up to the same level as Nylander and Zibanejad – but Adrian Kempe wasn’t satisfied with one.

Broke 30 year old record

The Kings star accounted for a mighty hat-trick in the meeting against local rivals Anaheim Ducks, and that means he stepped up to a whopping 41 goals scored for the season. He thus became the Swedish player with the most complete hits, but he also set a record for the LA Kings as well. It was the first time a Kings player reached 40 goals scored since Luc Robitaille did it in 1993.

Adrian Kempe himself came close to reaching the mark last year, but now he finally stepped over the magical wall, as the first player in the organization in 30 years. In total, there have been 41 goals and 66 points in 82 games played for Kempe this season.
