The Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas hosted the draw for the round of 16 of the Copa de la Reina that will be played between 15 and 17 March in a single match. The Under-23 coach, Laura del Río, was the innocent hand in the Luís Aragonés Hall. The six-time cup champion with three different teams assured that it is a special competition before extracting the balls: “I have played cups in other countries and this format is very good”. This time there was no Clásico, and both Real Madrid and Barcelona will face their away matches against Levante and Real Sociedad respectively. Meanwhile, Madrid CFF will face Sporting Huelva at home and Granadilla will host Sevilla.
The times and dates of the meetings will be announced in the coming days and will be selected by the RFEF so that, as has happened with the round of 16, all the matches can be offered live on Teledeporte. A Copa de la Reina that, for the first time in its history, had teams from three categories, although only Primera Iberdrola have made it to this round.
The four semifinalists will play a final four at the end of May in a venue yet to be determined. The reigning champion, Barcelona, starts as the great favorite and faces the second-placed team in the domestic competition, La Real. Meanwhile, the runner-up of last year, Levante, is playing his pass against another team that starts with more ballots, Real Madrid. The third-placed league team, a Granadilla who is making history, wants to fight for the title against Sevilla, who are very good at this competition. While the two teams fighting for salvation, Sporting Huelva, who gave the surprise by eliminating Atlético, and Madrid CFF will play for the last place.
