Women are prohibited from studying – “Has far-reaching consequences”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

There are strong reactions from the outside world after the announcement that the Taliban regime in Afghanistan forbids women from studying at universities. The announcement was made by the Minister for Higher Education yesterday.

Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, says at a press conference that the decision is “another broken promise”.

– It is another very worrying step and it is difficult to see how the country will be able to develop and deal with all the challenges it already has without women actively participating in the active work and without women being educated, he says according to Spanish Efe.

The US also condemns the decision, in the “strongest possible terms”, says State Department spokesman Ned Price.

In the clip above, TV4’s foreign commentator Therese Cristiansson comments on the announcement.
