Police said Thursday they’ve ruled a 90-year-old Waterford woman’s death a homicide as their investigation continues.

Norfolk OPP have identified the victim as Marlene Wilson. She was found dead inside a home at 224 Mechanic St. in Waterford shortly before 8:30 am Sunday.

Police say a post-mortem was conducted Tuesday. The cause of death was not released.

A heavy police presence has been at the property since Sunday morning.

Norfolk OPP are asking the public to come forward with any information that may assist their investigation,

Just before noon on Tuesday, two OPP cruisers were stationed in the driveway containing a house trailer, and a large utility trailer, while another eight police vehicles – including a forensic identification unit truck – were parked along the edge of the road.

The investigation is being conducted by Norfolk OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with the province’s Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario, and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services.

On a local community Facebook page, news that the death had been ruled a homicide elicited stunned reactions.

“It’s disgusting and sad that someone did this,” one woman wrote.

Added another: “How could someone do this to anyone? Let alone a 90-year-old?”
