Police say the victim was walking on her property in Nixon when she was bitten by a dog.

She was taken to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The victim’s son-in-law said in an e-mail to Postmedia the dog is described as a pitbull. Police say the dog is an American Bulldog.

“She received extensive injuries to her face, head, legs, and arms and will need reconstructive surgery,” the son-in-law said.

The owner of the dog, a 57-year-old Norfolk County woman, has been charged with failing to prevent a dog from biting, attacking a person or domestic animal.

The accused will appear in a Simcoe court on December 8.
